Syracuse Herald American- Syracuse’s Pro Quintet Hits Road

Syracuse’s first representative basketball team in the National League has completed pre-season training and is ready for its league opener against Toledo in the latter city Thursday night. The squad will spend Monday and Tuesday polishing up its offense. Bennie Borgmann has been drilling the club for over three weeks and yesterday completed cutting the squad to 12 men which will take the road this week. As a surprise announcement it was revealed that Dick Ahrens, the elongated center who was billed as one of the tallest men in the circuit, has been optioned to the Utica entry in the New York State League. One addition to the team reported yesterday as Hugh Salisbury, former Purdue player, went through the drills. Bob Nugent, Eulogio Piro, Lester Rothman, Lew Spicer, Bob Shaddock, Bob Synnott, John Chaney, Jerry Rizzo, Bill McCahan, Carl Malfatino, Eddie Erban and Chick Meehan are now on the squad.
